For the month of August, we are very excited to announce the launch of our Alternative Transport Month Initiative. Earlier this year, we formed our Environment & Sustainability Committee and joined the ESI Monitor programme as a key first step in formalising the structure of our community involvement.
We've taken part in a number of key initiatives throughout the year, including working with Guernsey Conservation Volunteers, donating towards the restoration of the duckhouse, helping Citizens Advice Bureau get connected during lockdown and much more. We've also focused on initiatives for our staff as well, encouraging flexible working, training for the Guernsey Marathon relay (including launching the Technology & Digital Cup) and most recently, the launch of our Alternative Transport Month initiative.
The initiative was created to coincide with Cycle to Work Day on August 5th and as the month has progressed we have seen more and more staff walk, cycle and take public transport to work. We started with offering the chance to win a £50 voucher for a local active/sports business of the winner's choice; one for the most number of miles logged on the daily commute by alternative transport and one for the most number of return commutes logged by alternative transport. Just over a week into Alternative Transport Month, our client Karel Harris, Managing Director of Sarnia Hotels contacted us to offer our staff the chance to win a 1-night staycation with breakfast and dinner at either Hotel de Havelet, Les Rocquettes or Moores, "Your alternative transport month is a fantastic initiative – it's really great to see other businesses trying to reduce their carbon footprint and we felt it would be nice to offer some encouragement to those taking part, as it really aligns with our values, too!"
Keep an eye on our social media pages throughout August to be kept up to date with our progress!
