All our Systems Consultants have their own areas of specialism so although Aaron is our second Systems Consultant to feature in our 'Meet the Team' series, none are created equal at Resolution IT!
Tell us a bit about your role
I have been with the company about five years and started out on the Service Desk which is the first line of contact for clients ringing in with a query or issue. As the company has grown, so has my role, so whilst I still work on tickets (as we call client queries), I am also involved in automating our internal systems to provide enhanced functionality to our managed service clients, at no additional cost to them.
So there isn’t a typical day then?
Not really, everything is so varied which is what I like. I particularly like working on innovative projects, as I like taking something from nothing and then seeing the fruition of our company’s hard work at the end of the project. For example, we have enhanced our built-in Platinum patching and monitoring tools, offering even better protection and updates of our client systems. I am lucky to have that variety of tasks in my job role – it is nice to have the mix and break up the day’s tasks.
How did you get into IT?
I started my working life as an insurance administrator but I was never at my desk because I was always fixing people’s IT issues. My manager at the time offered to put me into an IT role and learn from their IT Manager and that’s how it all started. I’ve always had an interest in new and evolving technology and how it can be used to further enhance the end user experience.
What ‘at work’ app can you not live without?
One of our new automation systems – this is a system that the business is currently implementing; as soon as I saw its feature set, I was blown away and this instantly became my new favourite product. This system enables us to enhance our current documentation process and monitor and record changes in client systems to better enable us to identify and troubleshoot issues, at no extra costs to our clients.
On systems it monitors, it records every change made and details of the change and the time these were made, reports on internal security settings to ensure compliance, alerts when anything which becomes non-compliant from the policy set and automatically updates documentation.
And outside of work; what’s your go-to app?
Spotify – I can’t live without music. I listen to it in the car, in the house, over wireless speakers. I go through phases so one week it could be rock music, another dance, another week hip hop. I am also a huge fan of the underlying principle of streaming services, and they are clearly here to stay.
What do you like about Resolution IT?
I like being part of a locally grown company that has grown and continues to grow in the five years that I have been here. I feel privileged to be part of the Resolution family and be involved in working with both standard solutions and cutting-edge technologies which are making such a positive impact to our clients' working lives.
And finally, any tech predictions for the coming year?
More & more people are adopting the move to the cloud with recent global events and realising that they do not need the physical hardware on site and they’ll become more confident about their data being securely stored in the cloud. As part of Resolution IT, I was proud that many of our clients had already adopted a partnership with us to implement cloud-based systems. This enabled easy transition from working in an office environment to working from home and now back again into the office.
