In our continuing ‘Meet The Team’ series, it’s the turn of Jake Duquemin, one of our Business Solutions Architects.
What does a Business Solutions Architect do?
Well we all have different areas of interest but everyone in the team helps create and support cloud solutions, built on Microsoft Office 365. In my case, I create company intranets which allow clients to easily access their internal documents and systems, increasing staff productivity. I also create client portals which are similar to intranets but these are external facing for our clients' clients to share data and information to their customers, allowing collaboration and increased communication levels. I'm also responsible for migrating organisations to Office 365 and SharePoint Online, focusing on the flexibility and scalability the solution provides.
What’s your favourite work app?
Microsoft Teams as it allows us to easily communicate with each other, greatly increasing co-operation and collaboration between all of us in the Resolution IT team. It’s constantly being updated with new features which our digital trainer, Tonia, makes sure she shares with us all!
The integration with Office 365 is very helpful as it allows you to easily share files between each other and then start to co-author on that same file, meaning working on a document with another colleague is much easier – there’s only ever one copy of a document and all amended versions are easily accessible by clicking on ‘version history.’
What’s your favourite outside of work app?
I’ve got Waze on my phone. It’s a GPS app which you can use to help navigate to areas you aren't sure how to get to. The app allows you to set certain waypoints for various places you frequently visit, the two main ones being your home and your work. However, you can set any location as a favourite on the app, so if you have a friend’s house you frequently struggle to get to every time, you can simple favourite their location and it will be saved in the app for whenever you need it. It’ll even tell you what time to leave (based on current traffic conditions), redirect you if there is a road closure, point out petrol stations and so on.
What do you like about working at Resolution IT?
I enjoy the autonomy that my role provides. Being responsible for the delivery and support of custom solutions that I've built gives me a great sense of pride. I'm able to use my own initiative and manage my workload, without being micromanaged on a daily basis. The management team here at Resolution has trust and confidence in my ability to produce high quality solutions, as well as manage and run my own projects. Working closely with the rest of the Business Solutions team, as well as the wider team at Resolution IT, empowers me to build and deliver professional yet creative solutions.
Any tech predictions for the future?
I think the rapid development in virtual reality (VR) will soon start to become much more mainstream in both people’s personal and business lives. Due to Microsoft Ignite being cancelled this year (their yearly conference for developers and IT professionals), they hosted it online and one of the keynote speakers was showing how Microsoft’s new VR product called HoloLens can be used in the workplace. When it comes to training doctors or aiding mechanics when fixing cars, this innovative technology will be beneficial to many different industries in their use and understanding of technology.
