We’re increasingly being called upon by busy in-house IT teams to provide extra support for a range of projects. Robin is one of our Senior Consultants who provides this much needed extra in-house support. With a 30+ year in IT he recalls working at the BBC’s IT department in London when PCs were first introduced!
Tell us about the role behind your job title
My role is primarily to assist clients with new systems, rolling out projects, providing support and in-depth troubleshooting; anything which in-house IT depts need to outsource because they either don’t have the time, resources or expertise to be able to carry out. It could be analysing a business’s IT infrastructure and then providing recommendations, or something as specific as enhancing the security on their servers and systems With increases in regulation and security considerations, the roles and responsibilities of the in-house IT team continue to grow and we’re called upon to take some of that pressure off, allowing them to focus on their ‘business as usual’ IT.
By seeking our assistance, they’re able to access our vast IT knowledge bank: we work with so many different clients in so many different sectors, all with specific requirements. We’re able to advise the client on exactly what will work for them and we’re more than happy to put them in touch with a client that’s experienced a similar IT road block to share their experience with them. I thoroughly enjoy it; the cliché of ‘no two days are ever the same’ is completely true. I get to work with some fantastic clients on such a range of projects – what’s not to like about that?!
What’s your go-to piece of work technology?
It’s been Microsoft Teams for a while and as soon as we went in to our second Guernsey lockdown, it reconfirmed it for me. It’s this central hub where I can find and share information quickly, collaborate on documents and gives me the ability to organise meetings and make phone calls. You can share emails into the different channels you are in, add any number of apps in both chats ands channels such as OneNote and so on.
And outside of work, what app do you use the most?
Well as I love music, it would have to be the Sonos app – a wireless sound system. There’s nothing better at the moment than finishing a virtual day at the office, sitting back and listening to BBC Sounds and the selection of documents and dramas available, whilst I prepare the evening meal for my wife and myself.
What do you like about Resolution IT?
The fantastic culture where staff really do work as a team and support each other incredibly well. I’m all for working hard but there has to be a balance and I respect the company’s desire to make sure we all have the correct work/life balance.
