It's been a busy October for us at Resolution IT! Kicking off with the end of a successful and jam-packed quarter, we've had a lot to celebrate. Here's a round-up of this month's best bits, covering team achievements, staff milestones and company highlights. Get stuck in to find out what the Resolution IT team has been up to!
A definite highlight of our month was the IoD Awards, where our CEO, Olly Duquemin, won Director of the Year. We're hugely proud of Olly for this achievement and delighted to see his leadership recognised.
"Olly Duquemin is building and investing in Resolution IT in Guernsey and Dubai with entrepreneurial flair and insightful leadership, while showing a real heart for the local community and ESG." - IoD Guernsey Branch.
A second trophy for our kitchen shelf arrived when Resolution IT was awarded Member Contribution of the Year at the Prestigious Network Group Awards. Up against 80 other MSPs from across the UK, we were delighted to receive this award. Directors Olly and Steve were finally able to attend the Network Group Gala in person, after last year’s was hosted virtually. This was a fantastic event and it was great to catch up with other group members and hear from peers and industry leaders.
The third addition to our trophy shelf was the Digital & Technology Cup which was awarded to our relay team in the Guernsey Marathon… more on that later.
Another highlight for us this month was the move into our new town office, which acts as a great base for those in the team who are needed on-site by our clients in St Peter Port, those with a lot of town-based client meetings and to help reduce the amount of time and fuel spent commuting. This new office is a reflection of Resolution IT’s continued growth and we’re excited to be expanding our island presence.
We also had a delivery of two new electric Fiat 500s this month, which act as pool cars for our staff and have been introduced to help us reduce our company carbon footprint.
After a long wait due to covid restrictions and set backs, we have finally been able to continue with the renovations in our main office, and it’s looking great!
We enjoyed some really fun socials this month, to celebrate the end of a successful quarter and thank the team for their hard work.
Getting into the 007 spirit, we marked the release of 'No Time To Die' with a James Bond themed casino night here in the office. Fuelled by a little competitive spirit and some Resolution IT inspired cocktails, this evening of Roulette, Blackjack and Crown & Anchor was incentivised by an extra day of holiday for the last person standing. Well done to Simon Le Pelley for collecting the most chips and winning the prize!
A more wholesome event was our pumpkin carving evening, where we prepared for the Halloween weekend with a bit of after-work spookiness. We have our resident party-planner, Sam Roberts, to thank for kitting out the office with decorations and pulling these events together.
We entered two teams into the Guernsey Marathon relay, who did us proud and took home the Digital & Technology cup (an award we sponsored, which made the victory even sweeter!). Our office running fanatic, James le Gallez, even took on the challenge of completing the whole marathon, in an epic time of 3:58. With legs like jelly, we shared a celebratory drink at the Slaughterhouse with our clients and made plans for next year’s relay team!
Throughout October, we hosted our first Modern Bytes lunchtime learning sessions at our office, that we opened to our Platinum clients. The first in our series; 'Communicating & Collaborating with Technology', elaborates on the power of Microsoft Teams, OneNote and cloud technology to help you communicate with and collaborate on various projects all in real-time, unencumbered by time-zones, locations or technical capabilities. It was great bringing our clients together to share some of our top-tips and industry know-how.
We offer a wide and comprehensive selection of training courses to help businesses harness the full potential of technology. If your company is looking for bespoke digital learning to help your team get the most out of their technology, get in touch with Tonia Meakin from our training team here.
At the beginning of October, we welcomed students from the Guernsey College of Further Education for a tour of our office and a talk about our different departments. It was great giving them an insight into our services and an introduction to the world of work inside a technology company like ours. From technical, engineering and security roles, to training, marketing and administration positions - we have a lot going on! We hope they left feeling inspired and encouraged about working in a place like this - even if it was just the sausage rolls and games room that swung the vote! We certainly all love it here.
We had five exam successes this month, with Josh Chaloner, Jake Duquemin, Nick Girauld, James Ogier and Luke Williams all achieving new certifications.
Jake Duquemin passed the Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals (PL-900) exam. This certification evidences a great level of understanding when it comes to using the products provided to Resolution IT and our clients through the Power Platform. The Power Platform is made up of three main products: Power BI for data analysis, Power Apps for low-code app creation and Power Automate for automating business processes using workflows. The certification demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the AI options provided to us through Microsoft, specifically building Power Virtual Agents and using the Microsoft AI builder.
Jake said: "I have been using the Power Platform to provide powerful and cost-effective solutions to our clients to help digitise and automate their business processes for a while now. I decided to achieve this certification to validate my existing knowledge and further increase my understanding of the Power Platform and the capabilities it offers to allow me to create more functional and effective solutions for our clients."
James Ogier achieved the ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation and Lead Implementer certification, which enables him to support an organization in effectively planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and maintaining an information security management system (ISMS) based on ISO 27001. This certification has helped James to understand and implement a global management system, based on an approach of business risks, to establish, operate, review and improve information security.
James said: "I’m excited to now assist clients with implementing an information security management system that aligns with ISO 27001. This is a globally recognised standard for best practice and with more and more clients getting the benefit of outsourcing their Information Security to Resolution IT, it’s another benefit we can now add."
Nick Girauld has achieved his Microsoft 365 Fundamentals Certification, an exam designed for candidates looking to demonstrate foundational-level knowledge on the considerations and benefits of adopting cloud services and the SaaS cloud model.
Nick said: "With this certification, I’ve demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of organizational IT solutions and the ability to differentiate Microsoft 365 solutions from the market competition. Completion of the exam shows competence in offerings, optimizing licensing for cost effectiveness, and support options for organizations. I’m looking forward to putting these new skills into use with our clients.”
Luke Williams and Josh Chaloner have passed their SonicWall Security Administrator (SNSA) exam. This certification is enables them to teach specific SonicWall network security technologies and provide the skills to successfully implement and configure SonicWall firewall appliances and security services.
Luke said: "This exam covers many aspects of managing and deploying SonicWalls. This ranges from licensing and other non-technical aspects to advanced routing and networking. Completion of this exam shows that I'm capable of deploying a SonicWall from start to finish, whilst implementing multiple security services in order to secure our clients. With all of our clients having different requirements, we can ensure that we are always able to deliver a suitable, secure solution, which follows industry standard best practices."
Josh said: "With the latest version of SonicOS (Gen 7) Software and Appliances now in use, it is important to make the most of the new features and processing power available. This course and subsequent exam show a demonstrable skillset required to mount a proactive, effective defence against current and evolving network and cybersecurity threats for our clients."
Great work guys!
Colleague of the month
Our October colleague of the month is Sam Roberts, nominated for once again going above and beyond to make sure the rest of us can have a great time. This month, Sam organised what is widely regarded as her best event yet; our office casino night, which saw the office filled with extravagant decorations made by the queen of craft herself, and kitted out with roulette and Blackjack tables, a well-stocked bar and delicious food. Sam is regularly known as the ‘Mum’ of the office and can always be counted on to lend a helping hand to those in need (and offer a sharp telling off to those who aren’t loading the dishwasher properly!). Well done Sam!
Microsoft has announced its first substantive price-increase since the launch of 365 in 2011, which is set to go into effect on March 1, 2022. This price increase is to cover the additional value that we've seen added to 365 over the years, including the addition of 24 apps including Teams, OneDrive, Yammer and the Power Apps. Microsoft has also highlighted that more than 1,400 new features have been added over the past 10 years, all without any amendments to pricing.
Office 2021 and Windows 11 have also been released this month. Office 2021 boasts several new improvements to the last Office upgrade in 2019, including a visual refresh, a search bar in all apps for general search queries, performance improvements and new stock media content. There are also specific updates to Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Visio.
Windows 11 features an updated design and new features, including a simplified Start menu and Taskbar, improved Microsoft Store and some great productivity enhancements. In the interests of system efficiency, we've been testing this new update on our own systems before rolling it out to our clients, and recommend clients wanting to discuss an upgrade should contact us in the first instance.
And that's a wrap! We hope you've all had a great month and your November gets off to a good start. Make sure to follow us on social media to keep up to date with everything Resolution IT:
